The Parenting Cottage offers several options for group based parenting classes for the community in a variety of areas that can be utilized for parents seeking to obtain  parenting skills or for those who may have mandated parenting education needed.


Parenting Toolkit:

Parenting-Tool-Kit 1Series of 5 – 2 hour evidence based parenting classes held in the evening to assist parents in going from good to GREAT parenting.  Topics includes:

  • Behavior, Temperaments & Parenting Styles
  • Age Appropriate Behavior Expectations
  • Cooperation, Communication & Bullying
  • Discipline vs. Punishment
  • Parental Rights & Responsibilities
  • Those attending can also access Dad’s Group or Mom’s Night Out


Dad’s Group:

Doug Hensley (2)Facilitated by Doug Hensley, the Dads Group meets monthly on the last Monday of each month at 6:00 PM at the Parenting Cottage.  Utilizing topics from the National Fatherhood Initiative, Doug facilitates group meetings which allow dads to discuss the unique issuing of parenting from the male prospective.  Dads attending the group give the group a “Thumbs Up” and return again and again to participate in the unique group. There is no cost to attend.


Mom’s Night Out:

Mom Group

Before becoming a mom there was more time for yourself–moms still need a bit of time to themselves–in a “child-free” zone that allows them to re-charge, network with other moms and be better able to meet the challenges of parenting.  Mom’s Night Out is on the 3rd Monday of the month at 6:00-7:30 PM with different topics, subjects and/or activities each month.There is no cost to attend.


Smart Start  – New Initiative

Parenting in the early stages is full of challenges and rewards.

The Parenting Cottage is partnering with Covenant Children’s Hospital to provide parenting classes at Covenant Children’s Hospital at 4000 24th St.  Classes will be held monthly and include the following topics:

  • Your Child’s Developing Personality
  • Milestones & Realistic Expectations
  • Creating a Safe Environment for your child
  • Positive Discipline and Parenting

Stork's Nest

Stork’s Nest Prenatal Classes

A collaborative venture between the Parenting Cottage, March of Dimes and the Texas Tech University School of Nursing – Stork Nest program, families can attend a 7 week series of prenatal classes held at the Parenting Cottage on Wednesdays at 11:30 AM.  Those attending earn points for the classes that can be redeemed for baby goods at the Stork’s Nest.  There is no cost to attend.  For more information call the Parenting Cottage at 795-7552 or the Stork’s Nest at 806-762-6730.

School Based Teen Parent Groups: 

Parenting classes for teen parents are offered at several area school campuses allowing teen parents to receive coaching on the challenges of parenting at a young age while also juggling academic loads.
